Mock interviews

The real round, before the real one

Four rounds with an AI interviewer. Each one ends with a report, judged against SDE-1, SDE-2 or Senior.

Your first AI interview and your first AI system design session are free.

The four rounds

Pick the round you are facing

Each round has a clock, an interviewer who asks follow-up questions, and a report at the end.

  1. 01 of 04

    System design

25 to 45 minWhiteboard it or load-test itProve it

Pick a problem and talk through the design with an AI interviewer. Draw it on a canvas. At the scalability step, Prove it runs a real load test on your own design.

    • 14 problems, including Payment System (UPI and Cards) and Ticket Booking System (Movies and Trains).
    • 5 steps with a time guide: requirements, API design, high-level design, deep dives, wrap-up.
    • 8 problems have Prove it. You say what your design can hold, then the test says if you were right.
    • Or load-test it: build your design in the simulator and the interviewer tests your claims on the real engine (one problem so far).
  2. 02 of 04

    Machine coding

75 min, 90 at mostPython, Java, JavaScript, C++Hidden tests

A low-level design round. Clarify the problem, design the classes, code a working core, then handle a new requirement the interviewer adds.

    • 10 problems: Parking Lot, Splitwise, Elevator, Rate Limiter and more.
    • Run is private. Submit runs hidden tests on your real code, and the interviewer reacts in words.
    • The new requirement always arrives in the same words, so the tests match what you were told.
  3. 03 of 04

    Resume grilling

    About 35 minYour own projects

Paste your resume. The interviewer picks the two points it can check best, and digs in: what you did, how it works, the numbers, what broke.

    • Your resume is cleaned first. Emails, phone numbers and links are removed before anything is used.
    • The interviewer notices numbers that do not add up, and asks about them without accusing.
    • You get a verdict for each point, the red flags with your exact words, and a rewrite of the weak line.
  4. 04 of 04

    Incident

12 to 15 min8 investigationsA clock is running

Production is down and customers are affected. Read the dashboards, logs, recent changes and traces, stop the damage, and name the root cause.

    • Every panel you open costs minutes, and the number of affected customers keeps growing until you stop it.
    • You choose from real actions: roll back, scale out, fail over, rate-limit, tell people.
    • The score is worked out by code from what you did. The AI cannot change it.

AlsoA coding interview: one problem, about 45 minutes, in the language you choose, run against a real code judge.

What you get

A report that shows its work

Every round ends the same way: a verdict against your level, a score for each part, and your own words as proof.

Verdict, judged against SDE-2

Close to the bar

Judged against the SDE-2 bar. You drove the design well; the deep dive on failure needed a prompt.

The SDE-2 barDrives the design from requirements to deep dives, makes estimates, picks storage and components with reasons, and handles at least one failure mode without being asked.

Scores out of 4

  • Requirements4/4
  • Estimation3/4
  • API and data model3/4
  • High-level design3/4
  • Reliability2/4
  • Communication3/4

What went well

  • You asked for read/write ratio and peak traffic before drawing anything.
  • Your estimate of 1,200 redirects per second at peak was shown step by step.

Fix this next

Say what happens when the cache restarts

You said “The database can probably handle it.”

What a stronger answer adds

A strong answer names the cold-cache spike (all 1,200 reads hit the database), then limits it: warm the hot keys, add jitter to expiry, and protect the database with a cap.

How to read it

  1. A verdict against your level

Not a score out of nowhere. The bar for SDE-1, SDE-2 or Senior is written out, so you can see what “close” means.

  2. A score for each part

Out of 4, for each part of the interview. You see which part held you back.

  3. Your own words

Every quote is checked word for word against what you really wrote. If it is not there, it is dropped.

  4. What a stronger answer adds

Built from your words and the notes for that problem. It tells you what to add, not a model answer to memorise.

  5. A result that is not an opinion

A load test that ran on your design, hidden tests that ran on your code, or a clock in an incident. Then the next step to take.

Machine coding adds

Tests passed, scenario by scenario

  • How many hidden scenarios passed, and the calls, expected and actual for each one that failed.
  • Whether the new requirement was handled, partly handled, not handled or not reached.

Resume grilling adds

A verdict for each point

  • The weakest spot of each point, and a rewrite of the resume line.
  • Red flags, with your exact words next to them.

Incident adds

Your clock against the ideal path

  • Time to stop the damage, and customers affected, against the ideal.
  • A timeline of what you did, the root cause, and the red herrings you fell for.

How honest is it?

Honest on purpose

An AI interviewer is only useful if you can trust the report. These are the rules it follows.

  1. 01Judged against your levelThe same answer can be strong for SDE-1 and only close for Senior. Every verdict names the bar it was judged against.
  2. 02Your quotes are checkedA quote in a report has to be in your own messages, word for word. If the AI makes one up, the report drops it.
  3. 03Tests and runs are realMachine coding runs hidden tests on your code. Prove it runs a load test on your design. These are results, not opinions.
  4. 04The AI cannot change a numberThe incident score is worked out by code from what you did. In machine coding, the working-code score is the share of tests that pass.
  5. 05“Not enough evidence yet” is allowedIf you leave early, the report says it could not judge that part. It does not guess.
  6. 06It counts only after two real answersLeave before that and it costs nothing: no free mock used, no credit spent.

Small things that help

Come back to it

Closed the tab by mistake? Open the round again and carry on where you left off, or end it and get your report.

Code in your language

Machine coding and the coding interview run in Python, Java, JavaScript or C++. Each language keeps its own code.

Your resume stays yours

It is cleaned before use, nothing from it is ever shown on a public page, and you can delete the round and its report.

Questions

Before you start

What happens to my resume?

It is cleaned first: emails, phone numbers, links and ID numbers are removed. “Check what we keep” shows you the cleaned text before you start, and it uses no AI and no credit. The raw resume is never stored. After the round you can delete it.

Which round should I start with?

Start with the 7-minute Drill. It is free and short. Then pick the round you are facing: system design for most product companies, machine coding if the company runs that round, resume grilling if you are worried about your own projects.

What if I leave in the middle?

A round counts only after your first two real answers. Leave before that and it costs nothing. After that it uses your free mock or a credit, and a round that counted ends with a report.

Can the AI be wrong?

It can. That is why the numbers come from tests and load runs, not from the AI, and why every quote is checked. If there is not enough to judge, the report says “not enough evidence yet”.
